 Linda Aman – Linda is pleased to announce her painting “Beyond the Rim of Light” has been accepted into the Idaho Watercolor Society Annual Juried Exhibition. The show is held at The Riverside Hotel 2900 W Chinden Blvd, Garden City. April 30th -June 27th. The Award ceremony will be June 2nd 6:30-8:15 open to the public.

 Jessica L Bryant will be on the faculty for the Plein Air Convention and Expo, and this year there is an option to join online as well as in-person. The online streaming option comes with 90 days of replay, access to all five demo stages, and you can even join us for the paint-outs. Jessica will also be giving a free online demo for Art School Live with Eric Rhoads on May 6th at 10am Mountain/9am Pacific. In May, Jessica’s work will be in several exhibitions, including the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Watercolor USA, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, Idaho Watercolor Society, and the Settler’s West Galleries Summer Show.

Carrie Cornils will spend two weeks in Nice, France and Fermo, Italy painting in watercolors and pastels with Laura Pollak.

Helen Edwards has two paintings displayed at the Rising Stars Show in downtown Salt Lake City and has been accepted into the Utah State juried show which begins in June in Provo with her piece entitled “Basket of Plenty.”

 Mary Gardiner will be exhibiting her abstract Science Series (watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings) at Boise Brewing 523 W Broad St, Boise in May, with an opening reception May 7, 5-7 pm. Mary would love to see you there. 

 Shelly Johnson – Shelly is pleased to share that her painting, “Little Cedarwood Creek Falls”, was accepted into the Land That I Love Exhibition at Mark Arts in Wichita, Kansas. The exhibition opening reception is Friday, May 29 from 5 to 7 pm. The show closes Saturday, July 18. 

Shelly Johnson’s painting, “Galena Overlook”, was accepted into the IWS 2026 Annual Juried Membership Exhibition. The exhibition will be held at the Riverside Hotel in Garden City, Idaho. The show will open Monday, May 4 and show at the Riverside to Sunday, June 28. The awards reception with juror JJ Jiang is Tuesday, June 2 from 6:30 to 8:15 pm. 

Gary McCall is a featured artist at Water’s Edge Riverside Hotel for the month of May.

Beth Trott will be the featured artist this May at Art Source Gallery with her watercolor exhibition Upon Closer Reflection, on view May 5–30. This series begins with careful observation of the natural world, using recognizable forms as a starting point before allowing color, movement, and pattern to gradually shift toward abstraction. An opening reception will be held Thursday, May 7 from 5–9 PM, and she would love to see you there. This year Beth has also been making a more intentional push to enter juried watercolor exhibitions, and is grateful to have work accepted into both Watercolor USA 2026 at the Spiva Center for the Arts and the Spokane Watercolor Society National Juried Exhibition.

“Master Art Classes Online Live” – Linda Aman – Lessons on Zoom Tuesdays Similar to in person “open paint” sessions, where you can share what you are currently creating. Email a painting in progress to Linda the day before class. You will have instruction and paint time during class. Artists learn from a wide variety of art. All the critiques and suggestions from each artist’s paintings will increase your knowledge. Tuesdays May 5th and May 19th. SW Idaho Call to Artists

The Meridian Arts Commission invites visual artists and artist groups to submit their artwork for display in 2027 at Meridian City Hall’s Initial Point Gallery. The gallery displays one-to-two-months long exhibits that are juried by the Meridian Arts Commission. The gallery is open weekdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, excluding holidays. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public.

SW Regional Director Opening

****Attention SW Members****

The Idaho Watercolor Society is in immediate need of a Regional Director for the SW region. This region is the largest of the society’s region with a membership of 170 members and among one of the most active.

The Bylaws states the following regarding Regional Directors: 

REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES

The Regional Representatives shall arrange activities in their regions at least four times a year.  Activities may include programs, paint-outs, workshops, and / or business meetings.

The Representative is responsible for scheduling an open exhibit of work by members of the region at least once a year.

The Representative is responsible for scheduling and coordinating the traveling show in their region.

The Representative shall send regular reports to the Newsletter, describing regional activities and members receiving special recognition.

The Representative is responsible for notifying members of events in their region.

The Representative is responsible for preparing and submitting a proposed budget and final financial data for the regional events.

The Policy Manual states the following regarding Regional Directors: 

Regions:

  1. Operating funds will be allocated equally among regions annually as a set amount, plus an allocation based on a percentage of each region’s active and associate membership as set by the Board, under the leadership of the Treasurer.  Regional Representatives will be responsible for managing and reporting the regional allocations.

Example:

  • Total IWS Regional Budget $2,252
  • $350 to each of 5 regions   – 1,750
  • Remaining Amount of Regional Budget to be divided by each Region’s
    percentage of membership (i.e. $502 divided by number of regions)
  1. No unused allocations will be carried forward to the next fiscal year.
  2. Use of regional funds must be supported by appropriate documentation, budgets, and receipts.

Karen Hickman I’m very excited as I will be displaying my watercolor painting at St Alphonsus for the month of April.  I know many of our IWS friends have displayed theirs as well, but always an honor.
Jessica L Bryant ‘s work was accepted into several upcoming exhibits, including the Transparent Watercolor Society of America (50th Anniversary), Watercolor USA, the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, and the Splash: Best of Watercolor publication.

Ileana Cordova -I’m excited to share that my Call to Artists application was accepted to exhibit my watercolors at the Kuna Arts and History Center in 2026. My work will be featured alongside two other artists in a three-person showcase from April 24 to July 3, 2026.

Workshops/ Classes:


Jessica L Bryant will be giving a free, live online demo at Art School Live with Erik Rhoads on April 14th at 9am Pacific, 10am Mountain. The topic will be painting water and rocks under water, focusing on shape and value. Watch live on facebook and youtube.
Jessica will be on the faculty at the Plein Air Convention and Expo in the Ozarks May 14-18, giving a stage demo and working in the field with participants. If you’d like to go, you can save $100 off registration with code  .

Bring a sack lunch.  Join Linda for a hands-on workshop exploring the look of rust, corrosion, and texture using unusual color choices and granulating paint techniques. Linda Aman  Watercolor Workshop – Idaho Falls, ID Going Green” Saturday April 25th 9:00am–4:00pm Price for the all-day workshop $95.00.  Studio address: 258 N Water Ave. Idaho Falls, ID. Please bring a sack lunch.  Join Linda for a watercolor workshop focused on expanding your use of greens and other luscious colors. You will learn how to mix a range of greens using warm and cool tones and create luminous color avoiding muddy results. The day is structured with clear, step-by-step instructions and individual guidance throughout the day. in your watercolor. Learn to mix and utilize a variety of greens using warmer or cooler colors. Create luminous color without creating mud to bring harmony to your work. Instruction is step-by-step, with individual guidance throughout the day. Please bring a quarter sheet (140 lb.) cold press Arches watercolor paper, stretched and prepared on a board, along with your own art materials. Linda will provide the reference photo, and a selection of supplies will be available in class. If needed, you may contact Linda in advance to have your paper prepared.
