Expose Homeschoolers to Watercolor Painting

By All IWS Info, Region - Southwest

Hello,

I facilitate the homeschoolers group at the Kuna library. Once a month we invite different organizations/businesses to teach our group about their field of work and if possible, do a hands-on activity together. We would like to invite the Idaho Watercolor Society to be our guest this coming fall. We usually have about 50 people. Parents attend and assist their children, primarily ages 5-12.

Contact Heather if you are interested.

Greetings Critique Attendees:
There will not be a Critique for Monday, June 1.
Only about 6 persons responded to my email of last week, and of them only one said they’d like to have the critique as usual.  Nobody volunteered to host the critique in my (or Roy, or anyone else’s) absence.
Please consider visiting the Riverside Hotel and studying the work of those juried into the exhibition, and those of the Founders’ exhibit.  The assemblage of Founders’ paintings will be the only time all those excellent paintings will be on display together, as many of them are part of private collections.
  • Please do not visit the Riverside on Monday June 1, as our Juror and workshop instructor JJ Jiang will be jurying in the final 20 award winners.  We need to allow him space and time in which to do a thorough job.
There will be an announcement regarding the upcoming July 6 critique in the week preceding, as usual.
Thanks very much, keep your brushes damp, and we’ll see you in July!

Hello Critique attendees:

I have a request for you, that you respond directly to me (Scott Muscolo, at scottmuscolo@gmail.com) with your availability to lead the critique on Monday June 1.

If you are able and willing to do this, I’ll get back to you with the first to respond, and they will lead the critique on Monday June 1.  Here are the choices at present:

  • select a couple of people to run the critique on Monday June 1,
  • or Visit the Riverside Hotel and see the paintings accepted into the exhibit and the paintings selected for the Founders’ Exhibit, and critique your own work against the works on display.

I feel the second option is every bit as valuable as the first, as all the paintings in each exhibit are quite strong.

Thanks for considering each of the options, and I look forward to hearing from you.  The announcement for next week will be determined by the results of this request.

SW Watercolor Classes

By Region - Southwest, Uncategorized

The following watercolor classes were accidently omitted from the previous post for May.

Watercolor Classes with Carol HasBrouck Browning

BEGINNING CLASSES

If you or someone you know are interested in learning to paint with watercolor, come join us. As you explore the medium, you will learn about the unique aspects of watercolor and how to master the combination of paint and water. You will learn how basic techniques can be used to make striking paintings, about pigment variations and compatibility, and understand shape, color, value and composition. Most importantly, you will discover the joy of painting with watercolor.

EXPLORE PORTRAIT PAINTING CLASSES

If you think you might be interested in learning about portraits, join me in exploring how to paint faces, (including animals if there is interest). You will learn about facial planes and how faces are just shapes made from light and shadow. You will explore all the color possibilities in portrait painting, along with how background and setting can make or break a painting and how expression and mood is used to draw in the viewer. You will learn how to find a broad range of subjects that will expand your skills.

Both the Beginning and Portrait Classes are 2 1/2 hours long, usually once per month. Classes can be either one-on-one or small group of 2-3 artists. Cost $40 per class. For more information or to schedule a class contact: Carol HasBrouck Browning  –  hazzy1900@gmail.com

I taught drawing at Boise State.  I worked in marketing and advertising in Southern California and South Carolina.  For the past 15 years I have explored new techniques and tools, focusing on painting people and animals. I am a member of the South Carolina Watermedia Society, Watercolor Society of Oregon and a member and past president of the Idaho Watercolor Society. I am anxious to share how much fun it can be to learn and create with watercolor.
