Ken Call Workshop

By WFWS, Workshops

The Ken Call Workshop at WFWS50 in Lubbock, Texas, has Open Spaces!

In case you have been delaying signing up, now is the time. April 9, 10, 11. This is a great opportunity to learn watercolor techniques from an expert. He even gives you the option of doing landscapes on Day 1.

Class Description

The Enlightened Brush

Ken Call shares his passion for portraits and figures in his unique watercolor style. Learn how he takes advantage of their ability to convey a mood, be spontaneous and still have the needed tightness to capture the proper likeness. Come and learn to paint dynamic, colorful, figures and portraits under the guidance of an accomplished expert. Based on an intimate dance of light and color, Ken will show you how to bring your paintings to life while using your own personal vision and experiences. Comprehensive portrait and figure painting will be featured in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. You will have the opportunity to work with your own personal favorite subject matter as well as reference photos provided by the instructor.

There will be daily demos and plenty of one-on-one instruction for all who desire. Ken will in addition make available to the class his reference to paint from if they so desire. At the end of each day, you will have the opportunity to share your work with Ken and the class for review and discussion.  You are encouraged to bring several samples of your work to share with Ken for feedback.

Day 1 Instructor demo and students paint their choice of any subject (landscape, portrait, etc)
Day 2 Instructor demo and focus on portraits or figures — (Ken provides reference photo)
Day 3 Instructor demo and focus on portrait and figures— (participants bring their own pre drawn photo reference)

Check out his website here. Or search Youtube for a few videos other societies have posted of his demos.

Go sign up on the WTWS website or contact Cecilia at 806-778-2289

The price for the workshop is $350.

By All IWS Info, Events

Happy New Year!

The upcoming art show Canvas + Corks art submissions open on January 15th!

This is the second annual show to benefit Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel (CABI). This art show includes a ticketed event on the evening of January 30th for art collectors, patrons and guests at JUMP in downtown Boise. Artists will be able to attend for free. It will be an evening of art, music, wine tasting and food in the rooftop room at JUMP. It should be a lot of fun.

This show is open to all Idaho Artists. The purpose is to bring together artists from various local artist organizations in one show that will benefit CABI. 80% of the sales will go to artists, with 20% retained by CABI.

It promises to be a wonderful event.  We hope you will participate! We will be bringing together guests from our congregation, friends, and art collectors, so there will be buyers who have not yet been exposed to your work.

Important! 2025 Annual Show Prospectus and Travel Schedule

By Annual Juried Exhibition, ArtCall

Greetings IWS Membership:

Please find links for the following documents:  The 2025 IWS Annual Juried Membership Exhibition Prospectus and the 2025 Travel Schedule.

We will be using ArtCall again this year for our electronic entry process.  Details are included on p.3 of the Prospectus.

There are a few changes this year regarding substrates, prize allocations, and number of entries permitted.  I’m not going to preview them here, it is better to read the prospectus thoroughly and understand them from there.

We are also extending our travel show to our new venue in the North Region, the Lewiston City Library.  It will be there for two months, November and December.  This will affect your ability to enter your Annual Show entry into WFWS 2026.  Please review the prospectus for complete details, under Entry Requirements.

ArtCall will open on Saturday, February 1 and close on Thursday, March 20, 9:00 PM.

We had a terrific show and travel show last year, and this year may be even better.  I am looking forward to seeing all of your entries!

Best of luck and best regards,

Scott

Here is the membership renewal page with key areas circled, in order to renew:

If you prefer, click here to print this screen capture to make it easier to review in order to follow the steps.

This new procedure is much easier to navigate, but remember that it will not work using your mobile phone or tablet. You must use a laptop or desktop computer.

Please be sure that if you are doing a web search for the IWS website that you are putting in the entire website address:  www.idahowatercolorsociety.org

Some search engines take you to the Facebook IWS site which is not the official IWS website and will not allow you to pay dues.  It’s very easy to “bookmark” this page on your computer so you can find it more easily.

If you prefer to mail your membership dues then you may print a hard copy of the form from the web page.  I am also happy to email you a membership form if that helps. If you have any questions please let me know.
